                                                  History of Linen Saree

Linen is extracted from the Flax plant, which is believed to be cultivated around 10000 years ago in Mesopotamia and Egypt. In some research, it has also been concluded that it could be 36,000 years old as well as traces of linen have been found in the caves of Georgia. It reached high popularity during the medieval times and was adopted by Europeans. It was popular amongst the aristocrats. At one point, it was also used as currency in Egypt.

During the same era, linen was used as underclothes and bedsheets due to its lightweight and breathability. China and the nations of East Europe have been the primary producers of linen in large amounts for the past few years. However, the best products may be found in Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Germany, Egypt, and the Indian city of Kochi, among many more niche producers. These are the places where you can discover the highest quality products.

                                                  Weaving of Linen Saree

The first process in the weaving process is the cultivation of the Flax plant, which grows in cooler climates and doesn’t require any chemical supplements or intervention. Once harvested, the plants are broken down through the process of Retting, and the fibres within the stalks are extracted. Impurities from the extracted fibres are removed from the process of scutching, and fine strands are created. The fine strands are spun in yarns and then stored safely. The yarns are then woven to create the actual linen fabric. Finally, the trained craftspeople weave the fabric, forming its distinctive texture by the interlocking of threads.
